Wow, we're lucky

June 10th, 2009 at 09:48 pm

My boyfriend and I both did very stupid things last night.

He left his laptop in his car with all of his windows rolled waaaay down. I left the key to the house in the door lock on the outside all night.

His laptop was still there this morning and fortunately nothing was taken out of our house.

Talk about lucky!

I didn't make as much on the books. The shipping was $3.15 + .99 on the packing. So I made $1.82.

lol - i have a major obsession with checking the doors before i go to bed each night - too many flatmates leaving them unlocked and/or open for me to find in the morning. they then shrug and go 'as if anything is ever going to happen anyway'. AAH! my boyfriend thinks it's funny but I just can't go to sleep unless I've checked them.

Wow that is lucky! There was actually just a story on the news tonight that reports of things stolen out of cars have skyrocketed in the last year :-/

I always check the doors before I go to bed- but I never open the door and check that my keys are there. Lol. Maybe I should start.

akrogers- I've heard that too. We live in a very safe, and very honest, part of town so we're very lucky.

That's really lucky! Smile It reminds me of the time when I was living in the college dorms and I couldn't find my credit card for the life of me. I started panicking and walked/ran down to the student parking lot for on campus residents (which is way far away) just to see if it happened to be in there. And sure enough it was there... face down on the passenger side floor!! Whew, I don't know what I would have down if it were face up, then anyone could steal my number. Taught me to never just throw my card in my bag when I get gas for my car that I actually have to take the time to put it away. At least I didn't drop it on the sidewalk or something.

But yeah I'm glad that your laptop wasn't stolen or your house broken into!!! Smile

I was horrified one time when I came home from vacation and the front door was unlocked. & I know I did the key thing at some point not too long ago.

Ironically, I ALWAYS find neighbors' keys left in their locked mailboxes. Like their whole set of keys just sitting there (scary since it is easy to tell the house from the mailbox). I Feel like the mailbox key fairy sometimes. I spend way too much time tracking down key owners - hehe.

If you lived in my city or neighborhood, the laptop would be LONG gone! 100% guaranteed. From my perspective, it's a miracle! Big Grin (If the car was locked up and the laptop was not visible - it would be gone regardless - I swear they just know).

I find keys all the time in the mailbox locks here. You can't tell which box belongs to which apartment, as the numbers for the mailboxes are different to the apartment numbers.

I've been pretty good of keeping track of my credit card though. My friend hasn't. The same day she activated her credit card she left it at the gas station and couldn't find it when she returned. She called the CC company and apparently they found it very funny.

Two days ago, DS wanted to ride his bike after school, so I left the garage door open. He got done riding, came in and I spaced off the need to close the door. The next morning it took me a while to remember why the garage would have been open all night long. DH seems to do it once a month miniumum.

C.Addict - BTDT too. Thank goodness our neighbors usually tell us! Big Grin

When we lived in the house I the garage door open all the time. Worst we had was a lost puppy wander in for shelter at night.

In my boyfriend's victimology class they talked about how people often unknowingly do things to increase their chances of becoming a victim of a crime- things like leaving the car windows rolled down, keys in the door, etc. It's amazing we haven't had anything stolen yet!

DH found a neighbor's car key/remote near our bushes on Sunday! VERY odd place for it to be and no one knows how it got there. He just went out to the parking lot and started hitting buttons. Only took him a few seconds to figure out whose car it was. She was lucky we found them!
