First time for everything

May 15th, 2009 at 11:23 pm

When I need to deposit money I usually go into the bank. Today the line was really long so I decided to use the ATM to deposit money.

I confused myself greatly! I didn't realize I need to put the cash in an envelope (I swear the ATM didn't say!) so I tried inserting the bills. But the ATM wouldn't take the bills. And then I forgot to write on the envelope how much cash was in it (after I figured out there were envelopes) and so it spit the envelope out. I went back to my car to fetch a pen and wrote the wrong amount on the envelope. Sigh. Oh well, the correct amount went into my checking anyway. I think I'm going to stick with going inside from now.

Boyfriend and I went mountain biking today. We cut it short as I'm really sore from work the other night.

In the middle of the night my cat decided to knock over a shelving unit (it's on wheels and has fabric drawers). She likes to sleep in the drawers because that's where we keep our PJs. It caused a very loud sound. Not a fun way to be woken up at 1 in the morning.

Boyfriend announced to his family the other day that we will be moving in together later this summer. It went surprisingly well he said. They didn't seem upset but at the same time not really happy either. I'll take that as a win- they've never been really fond of me and the past few months things have just gotten worse between his family and I. I think this is a good sign though.

I have never used an ATM either! I thought I was the last person on earth! (maybe i am now.) I dont trust them. I have never heard of them malfunctioning, but still don't trust them. And I don't trust me with them. If I had an ATM car I might just bankrupt myself. Better to make the disciplined, planned trips into the bank, rather than impulsive stops at the ATM.

Well, I have to say you gave me a bit of a laught. I'm glad you figured it out. I'm sure the wrong amount on the envelope won't be a problem. They will double check your math at some point!! I never thought about someone putting the bills right in. Thanks for sharing!

LOL! I'm glad someone found it funny. Actually I was kind of embarrassed when I was trying to figure out the ATM but afterwards I couldn't help but laugh at my stupidity.

Just for the record: I know how to take money OUT of the ATM very well. It's putting the money in that confused me. Big Grin

I have never used an ATM for deposit either - don't trust them either. & I wouldn't have a clue how to do it. Wink

I rarely need to deposit cash but when I do, I use ATMs with no problem. They have safeguards - 2 people open the envelops and check the money, everything is videotaped, etc. I never had a problem.

Never a problem with online banking and bill paying - we try to do all of our transactions this way. It is faster, a lot more convenient and it is reliable. There is more chance that a human will make a mistake putting in the numbers or that an envelope will get lost in the mail.

I rarely see the inside of the bank - atm is just faster, more convenient and straight forward.

actually the ATM at my bank you don't have to put the money in an envelope you just insert the cash. it's pretty cool.

just write it off as a bad ATM experience.

the guy before me left his ATM card in the machine and left. i had to chase him down to give it back to him. geeze. good thing it was me and not someone else who might not be as honest.

AHA! So I am not crazy in thinking that it didn't need an envelope if other ATMs don't use an envelope.

I have never left my card in an ATM- I'm very cautious about using ATMs and I always double check that I have everything before walking away.
