Misdated a check

January 21st, 2009 at 03:49 am

I just realized I made a boo-boo on one of my checks.

I sent in a check to Wellsfargo for a payment for my CC and instead of dating it Jan 20th, I dated it Jan 28th.

And I just stuck it in the mail box and it is gone. I cannot get it back.

Darn.

Do you think it will matter? If they get the check before the 28th (which I am almost certain they will), will they cash it or hold it until the 28th?

Maybe I'll go down to Wellsfargo tomorrow and talk to my banker.

Most of the time, it has no effect whatsoever...the only issue would be an observant employee catching it at the payment center...but most likely, it will go through without incident. Your bank will never know as check clear electronically these days by routing #, account # and amount...date is usually NOT part of the equation. Smile

    Thanks, Thrifty Ray!

I didn't know that, but now I do!

I have mis-dated January checks for the prior year and there is no problem. May call to be sure, but I think Ray is right. No worries. God bless.
