Use the above link to download a free copy of Suze Orman's latest book.

Suze Orman's 3 Step Plan was posted on another forum that I read:

1. Do not spend money for one day
2. Do not use any credit card for one week
3. Do not eat out in a restaurant for one month

I was surprised that just about everyone who responded to the thread said they could do the first 2, but were not willing to do the third. Many said that it is not possible for them to do the third. A few said that not going to a restaurant for a month was an unreasonable expectation and that two weeks was a more reasonable time frame.

I am always curious to see how others prioritize their finances. I enjoy eating out too, but I've never placed so much importance on going to restaurants.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I could do all three! I'm going to read her book, too.

I could also do all three. Maybe it helps that while I like the restaurants here, once you've eaten there a few times you have seen it all.

I plan on starting the book later today.

I could do all three also. Other than the convenience of not having to cook, I could really care less about eating in a restaurant. I enjoy it when I do go out, but it's just not that important to me.

    1) I am having a little trouble with NSD - to me they are just prepaid days. You still need to pay for your rent for that day, utilities, food, gas. You are consuming, you have just prepaid it.

    2) And miss out on reward points?

    3) Could be done, but really.... without a compelling reason this seems like a long time.

I guess I am in an argumentative mood today Smile))

Lol, Nika! It is fun to be argumentative.

You have a point about the utilities, rent, etc. I have never thought of it that way. Each day in an apartment/house does cost you, but you may not be paying for it each day.

I could do all three- but dear hubby would feel like he is being unfairly punished and I will take a few $20 restaurant bills over him whining any day.

I also had seen this link on another blog and downloaded the book... all 227 pages. It's an excellent FREE resource. Thanks!

I just tried to download the e-book, but got an error message that something is wrong with the file and it cannot be repaired. I sent a message to tech support at the website. Hopefully they will fix it soon. Thanks, Cassandra for the heads up.

I saw this episode in Oprah the other day here, obviously they show the program here a bit later than in the USA. When she asked the audience to make a commitment to do these 3 goals, there was one lady that went red in the face, she seemed really upset about number 3. It was hilarous how red her face got. Suze asked her why not and she just flat out said she just can't do it.

#3 annoyed me for another reason. My husband is in the food service industry. Restaurant sales are already down. Why pick on this industry? Many people are employed in the food service industry, not just waiters and hostesses.

Why not suggest avoiding the movie theatre or sporting events?

Laura, I am not sure why Suze Orman picked restaurants, but I have a guess. I go out to eat more than I go to movies and the only thing I buy at the movies is a ticket. At restaurants, I tend to spend more. So I think Suze picked restaurants because they have the potential to be more expensive than movies and generally, people probably go to restaurants more than sporting events. I do understand your frustration over restaurant sales. I also work in a restaurant.

Like I said, different strokes for different folks. I could easily go a month or two without going to a restaurant. For me, it isn't that important. For others, it means more.

Someone else blogged about the e-book and a poster pointed out that trying to download it using Firefox does not work. IE works just fine, though.

Weird. I used Safari and it works just fine.

Re the response to number 3. Perhaps the "OMG, no!" is a symptom of a lack of cooking skills?
